Pianist Tony Roe is renowned for his innovative use of technology in performances, redefining traditional jazz concerts. He skillfully blends the acoustic sounds of the piano with modular synthesizers and effects, creating a rich, hybrid sound that is characteristic of his work. In his solo project, Modular Piano, and with his piano trio, Tin Men and the Telephone, Roe incorporates various forms of multimedia into his performances. This includes video projections that sync with the music, crafting a visual narrative that complements the auditory experience. Often, the visuals are triggered or influenced by the music, resulting in a seamless blend of sound and sight.
During this workshop, Roe will demonstrate how he uses technology triggered from the piano, utilizing a combination of sensors and microphones.
